What is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning the wisdom of life . It is the traditional healing modality of the ancient Vedic culture from India, said to be around 5000 years old.
Ayurveda sees everything in the universe, including human beings, as composed of five basic elements: space, air, fire, water and earth.
These five elements combine with each other to give rise to three bio-physical forces (or Doshas ) within the human body:
Together these Doshas govern all the biological, physiological and psychological functions of the mind and body; both physical and emotional.Every individual has within them all three bio-physical forces, but it is the dominance of any one or two that makes up a person's individual constitution (known as Prakriti).
Although a person's basic Dosha type is determined at the moment of conception, these bio-physical forces are constantly shifting within the body. Just as the five basic elements fluctuate within nature, these five elements will also fluctuate within the body. Therefore the Dosha dominance changes with age, time of day or night and even the season.
Ayurveda seeks to treat the mind and body according to a person's Dosha using a system combining diet, herbal remedies, detoxification, Yoga, Ayurvedic massage therapy, lifestle routine and behaviours which stimulate positive emotion.

Ayurvedic Massage Therapy
Ayurvedic massage is a key component of the Ayurveda medical system. It is a powerful harmonising treatment which focusses on unblocking the body’s 107 main energy channels or Marma points. Much more than just a means to relax tense muscles and ease stress, Ayurvedic massage is a profoundly balancing treatment that opens the mind to the experience of inner stillness.
This ancient Indian complementary therapy is a powerful stress management tool that relaxes and tones muscles, improves circulation and brings about a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. Each wonderfully relaxing and restorative treatment is tailored to the clients individual needs.
It is also possible to incorporate Reiki, Reflexology or Sound Therapy within the sessions to further enhance the therapeutic effects of the massage, and promote even greater balance and harmony on all levels of your being - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
